'I feel bad': Andy Cole says he feels so sorry for one Man Utd player, his teammates haven't been helping him

Manchester United’s striking situation has been a problem this season.

The Red Devils have always had amazing strikers on their books, from Eric Cantona to Zlatan Ibrahimovic, but after the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo, Erik ten Hag’s side have struggled for a number nine.

Rasmus Hojlund came in last summer for £72m, and it’s fair to say he isn’t living up to expectations just yet.

Andy Cole has been taking part in a Q and A session on Reddit, and the former United striker was asked what he thinks about Hojlund.

Interestingly, Cole stated that he feels really sorry for Hojlund, claiming that his teammates aren’t helping him out as they aren’t playing to his strengths.

Andy Cole feels sorry for Hojlund

Cole shared his verdict on Hojlund and his debut season.

“I talked about it recently on Sky Sports with Neville,” Cole wrote.

“I think that he needs to develop his side-on game so that he’s not always tussling with a massive defender. There’s nothing wrong with a little bit of fighting but that you can’t do it as much as he does because it’s a waste of energy, and opportunities.

“Also, I don’t want to seem overly critical, but I feel bad for the kid that the players weren’t helping him out as much as they should; not playing to his strengths.

“It seemed a tiny bit harsh at first but I do empathise with Hoilund and I wish the best for him”

Hojlund has potential

Cole is right, Hojlund hasn’t had the best of seasons, but he does have a lot of potential.

Physically, Hojlund has what it takes to make it to the top, and if United can start playing to his strengths, he should hit a new level.

Of course, whether or not United are willing, or able, to build around Hojlund remains to be seen, and with a decision still to be made on their manager, it’s unclear how a striker with Hojlund’s attributes will fit into this United team next season.
