Aga Ruhulla wins from Srinagar, Er Rashid set for win from Baramulla, two ex-CMs trounced; NDA likely to form Govt at Centre

Jailed politician Abdul Rashid Sheikh, also known as Er. Rashid who is heading the Awami Ittehad Party (AIP), is poised for a victory in the Baramulla Lok Sabha segment.

Facing contenders like JKNC’s Vice President and former CM, Omar Abdullah, JKPC’s Sajad Gani Lone, and PDP’s Mir Fayaz, Er. Rashid has garnered 343,953 votes as of 2:30 PM, according to data on the ECI website reported by GNS.

Omar Abdullah appears to be the runner-up with 186,890 votes, followed by Sajad Gani Lone with 116,667 votes, and Mir Mohammad Fayaz with 20,895 votes. The vote counting is still underway, and final results will be announced in due course.

The National Democratic Alliance (NDA), led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, secured a majority of Lok Sabha seats on Tuesday, paving the way for a it’s third term. However Congress increased its tally leading on 100 seats, while BJP was up ahead on only 240 seats, short of majority mark.

According to the results announced so far, the BJP is leading in 240 seats. However, the final results are still pending.

The Apni Party fared badly and it had fielded two candidates: Mohammad Ashraf Mir for the Srinagar parliamentary seat and Zaffar Iqbal Manhas for the Anantnag-Rajouri seat, who trailed by heavy margins. Additionally, the party had backed Peoples Conference candidate Sajad Gani Lone in the Baramulla seat in north Kashmir.

PDP president and former CM, Mehbooba Mufti, conceded defeat on Anantnag seat saying,” Winning & losing is part of the game & wont deter us from our path.”

Jammu and Kashmir National Conference senior leader Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi has won on Srinagar parliamentary constituency. Mehdi got a total vote count of 356866 and is followed by Waheed-ur-Rehman who has a total of 168450 votes, Mohammad Ashraf Mir secured 65954 and Aamir Ahmad Bhat 15104 votes.
