Aston Villa in talks to sign Conor Gallagher from Chelsea

Villa expressed an interest in Conor Gallagher last week and now, the deal seems to be picking up pace.

The Athletic has reported that ‘preliminary talks’ are taking place between the two clubs, with the Englishman considered a ‘top target’ for Emery.

It’s added that Villa are also in contact with the player’s representatives as Emery is a ‘huge admirer’ of the 24-year-old’s form in 2023/24.

With there being a ‘healthy relationship’ between the Blues and Villa after securing the 2022 transfer of Carney Chukwuemeka, there will be hope that a deal can be struck soon.

Journalist Ben Jacobs suspects that Chelsea will ask for a price in the region of £50m for Gallagher this summer.

Update on Gallagher deal shows Unai Emery and Monchi’s transfer stance

After the highs of the 2023/24 season led the Midlands club to their Champions League dream, there was always some anxiety going into the summer due to Aston Villa’s PSR concerns.

While the worries are firmly there regarding the club’s finances, it’s clear to see how Monchi and Emery are hoping to play the market.

Pushing for early deals shows a firm statement of intent from Villa, who will be desperate to bolster their squad in preparation for next season to continue their progression.

The Athletic’s report detailed that the Villans see Gallagher as a player capable of enhancing the squad ready for the Champions League.

Not many would have expected to see talks happening in the opening week of June over the potential transfer of a £50m Premier League star, with Monchi and Emery already plotting another strong summer at Villa Park.

Additionally, the hunt for profit is underway, with Jhon Duran mentioned as a possible exit, as well as seeing Juventus’ interest in Douglas Luiz now speculated.

It’s refreshing to see for Villa, who are on an upward trajectory thanks to the guidance of Emery on the pitch and Monchi’s work on the business side of things, presenting dazzling opportunities.
