‘No!’: John Obi Mikel insists two Chelsea first team stars are nowhere near good enough for the club

Former Chelsea star John Obi Mikel has claimed the club have a number of players who are simply not good enough right now.

The Blues rescued a sixth place finish after some strong form at the end of last season, however it has to be said there were plenty of low moments in the one campaign under Mauricio Pochettino.

The Argentine has now been replaced, with Enzo Maresca taking over as head coach.

The Italian is currently studying last season’s squad while on holiday before officially starting with new role, and it will be interesting to see which players he singles out as impressive.

Defence is certainly a position that is going to get some attention after the departure of Thiago Silva back to Brazil.

Pochettino used a range of pairings last season, however one player who cropped up more than most was Axel Disasi.

Despite only in his first season at the club, his versatility saw him become a mainstay.

His move to Stamford Bridge him reunite with one of his best friends in the game, Benoit Badiashile.

Mikel slams Benoit Badiashile and Axel Disasi

Mikel yesterday launched a scathing rant and the two defenders on his ‘Obi One podcast’, claiming that the club need improvements in those roles.

He said: “I don’t think Benoit Badiashile is the guy for Chelsea. Alex Disasi… no! We need two proven, top centre backs who will come in and stabilise that back four. We need two world class centre backs.”

Mikel is clearly a passionate Chelsea fan, and is always going to have high expectations of the club after how successful his spell at the club was.

However, finding someone like John Terry is not exactly easy to do, and the club have plenty of young players who are showing a lot of promise already in the role.

They are set to be bolstered by the addition of Tosin Adarabioyo, who is going to be joining on a free transfer.
