Tottenham want to sign striker who registered more goal involvements than Harry Kane last season

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in signing a striker who outperformed Harry Kane last season.

Replacing Harry Kane is likely to feature high on Tottenham’s list of priorities as we head into the summer transfer window.

The club’s all-time top goalscorer departed for Bayern Munich last summer and Spurs opted against bringing in a recognised No9.

Heung-min Son excelled as a striker earlier in the season while Richarlison enjoyed a brilliant run of form while the South Korean star was at the Asian Cup.

But Son’s displays towards the back end of the campaign were far less convincing, while Richarlison continues to be linked with a move away from Spurs.

Tottenham certainly aren’t short of options should they wish to bring in a new striker, with plenty of worthy names set to be on the move this summer.

And according to GiveMeSport, Spurs have a five-man list of targets for the forward position ahead of the transfer window.

Tottenham eyeing move for Viktor Gyokeres

The outlet claims that despite recent reports, Spurs are not currently interested in a move for Fulham’s Rodrigo Muniz.

Instead, Spurs have five striker targets in mind, which includes Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres, Brentford’s Ivan Toney, RB Leipzig’s Lois Openda, Feyenoord’s Santiago Gimenez and Stuttgart’s Serhou Guirassy.

The Spurs News were told back in March that Tottenham were one of many clubs showing an interest in Gyokeres.

The Swede has enjoyed a dazzling campaign in Portugal after leaving Coventry City last summer, leading to admiring glances from Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea.

Gyokeres has managed more goal involvements than Kane

Should Tottenham be looking for a striker to fill the goalscoring void left by Kane, Gyokeres would be the obvious choice.

Gyokeres netted a staggering 43 goals and provided 15 assists in 50 games for Sporting last season.

His 58 goal involvements are better than that of Kane’s, who scored 44 and laid on 12 assists in his debut season at Bayern.

Of course, Kane has produced those numbers in what is widely viewed as a more difficult league. But bringing in a striker of Gyokeres’ calibre would go a long way to replacing Kane.

His £86 million release clause could prove to be a huge stumbling block for Tottenham though.
