Tottenham want to sign £20m English midfielder who’s been tipped to go to the ‘very top’

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly one of a number of sides monitoring a £20 million-rated English midfielder ahead of the summer transfer window.

Ange Postecoglou is expected to bolster his options in midfield over the coming weeks after disappointing ends to the season for several key players in the middle of the park.

The likes of Yves Bissouma and Rodrigo Bentancur struggled for form in 2024, while James Maddison’s ankle injury derailed his season.

Maddison’s form improved towards the back end of the season but it has highlighted the need for Tottenham to provide Postecoglou with an alternative option to the Englishman.

Conor Gallagher continues to be heavily linked with a move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with Chelsea expected to offload their academy star this summer.

But according to The Guardian’s Ed Aarons, Spurs are also keen on signing Sunderland midfielder Jobe Bellingham.

Tottenham keen on Jobe Bellingham

Aarons claims that Spurs are one of three Premier League clubs interested in signing Bellingham this summer.

The 18-year-old, who is the brother of Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham, is expected to command a fee worth around £20 million.

Sunderland are determined to keep hold of the talented youngster, despite interest from clubs around Europe.

Bellingham’s stats for Sunderland amid Spurs interest

Similar to his brother, Bellingham can operate in a variety of midfield roles but is at his best in an advanced role.

The Englishman only completed a switch to the Stadium of Light last summer after leaving Birmingham City. He’s impressed in his debut season in the north East and former Sunderland caretaker boss, Mike Dodds, believes he can go ‘to the very top‘.

Spurs have already missed out on Adam Wharton recently, who joined Crystal Palace from Blackburn Rovers in January.

You’d imagine that Tottenham will be keen to avoid making the same mistake and will be keeping a keen eye on the next stars to emerge from the Championship.

Here’s a closer look at Bellingham’s debut season at Sunderland in numbers (stats via FBref).
