£30m player is now set to leave Nottingham Forest permanently this summer - journalist

Nottingham Forest are now set to lose one of their players permanently this summer as the club require to create some funds to balance the books.

Premier League survival will ensure Nottingham Forest bring in top flight revenue for at least another season at the City Ground.

However, Nuno Espirito Santo is still going to have to part with some of his players this month in order for Forest to avoid any further FFP breaches before the 30 June deadline.

Players like Morgan Gibbs-White and Murillo have been linked with potential exits this summer with Forest said to value the pair in excess of the £47.5m they sold Brennan Johnson for last summer.

But there is one player who Forest will definitely see depart this month with his loan club taking up the option to make his stay permanent.

Forest set to lose £30m player this summer

Since Forest returned to the top flight, there has been significant player turnover at the club with Evangelos Marinakis providing serious backing to his managers.

But it seems as if one of the players who joined following their promotion to the Premier League may already be heading for the exit doors permanently.

Forest were forced into the sale of Johnson to Spurs last summer with the deal providing the club a considerable return financially.

However, Orel Mangala is a player who departed last summer on loan for the campaign to Lyon on a half-season loan and will now see his future at Forest come to a crossroads.

According to German journalist Florian Plettenberg, Mangala will not return to Forest with Lyon making his loan deal permanent this summer.

Mangala’s deal with Lyon will see his contractual stay through until 2027, however, the report claims the French side could look to make a profit on the midfielder with a summer transfer also possible.

It has previously been claimed by The Athletic the deal to see Mangala move permanently to Lyon would see Forest bring in up to £30m this summer.

Forest turning a healthy profit on Orel Mangala this summer

Mangala joined Forest back in 2022 from Stuttgart for £10.5m and he has gone on to make 53 appearances for Forest.

Even this season, the Belgian has gone on to make 22 appearances for Forest across the Premier League and FA Cup.

The midfielder is set to play in this summer’s Euros with Belgium and could even go on to earn himself an even bigger move over the coming months.

Considering the situation Forest find themselves in this month with FFP, a return of around £20m profit on Mangala could go a long way.

However, it will be frustrating to see if Lyon are able to go on this summer and turn a profit themselves on the Belgian.
