Alexander Isak has now given his honest verdict on possibly leaving Newcastle United this summer

Alexander Isak has spoken very openly about his Newcastle United future ahead of the summer transfer window.

The 24-year-old has just enjoyed the best season of his career, scoring 24 goals for Newcastle United and really cementing himself as a world class player.

Alexander Isak has been absolutely irresistible in black and white, leading to speculation that someone could try to buy him. This has been combined with fears that Newcastle need to sell to boost their PSR position, despite the Magpies being under no pressure to raise funds.

Arsenal have shown an interest in the striker, but are aware that he will cost far too much money. It has even been reported that an offer of £180million would be required for the Magpies to even think about letting him go.

The only concern would be if Isak asked to leave St James’ Park, but it does not sound like that is going to happen anytime soon.

Alexander Isak only interested in staying at Newcastle United

That is because Isak has been speaking about his future in Sweden, as he prepares to represent his country in friendlies against Denmark and Serbia – two nations who England will face at Euro 2024.

Ahead of those games, Isak has spoke to Swedish outlet Fotbollskanalen about his Newcastle United future, and made it clear he is happy where he is.

“I’m really, really happy at Newcastle,” he said.

“I had my best season of my career. You can’t underestimate that. I love everything about the club, the fans, the city.

“I don’t really have any thoughts of moving or anything like that. I’m having a great time and I’m very happy with my life.

“It’s not something I speculate about. Within the team or the club, there has been no talk or drama around it. I have not received any information from the club that they would have to sell me.”

Newcastle must give Isak more support next season

Isak has no plans to leave Newcastle, and is loving life in the North East. That is excellent to hear, as Toon fans absolutely love seeing Isak lead the line.

He is an incredible talent, and someone who Eddie Howe wants to build his team around. Even missing out on Europe is not going to impact his stance, although that might change if Newcastle miss out again next season.

While Isak is happy now, he needs to see that Newcastle United are a club that can match his ambitions over the next 12 months. That means pushing to be in the Champions League again, which is certainly achievable with the squad that Howe has. There is also the added bonus of more time on the training pitch due to no European commitments.

That will hopefully allow Isak to enjoy another special season in front of goal, but he also needs more support. He did not get that from Callum Wilson, who missed a lot of the campaign due to injury.

That forced Isak to play more than he should have, and it certainly impacted his performances. There were periods in the season when he picked up injuries of his own, or was nowhere near his explosive best due to fatigue.

Therefore, Newcastle need to protect Isak by giving him more cover. That either means ensuring Wilson stays fit, or bringing in someone who is much more reliable.

Either way, the Magpies must ensure that St James’ Park remains the place that Isak wants to play his football. For now, it certainly is.
