Movie star is quitting Hollywood as she 'predicts future' in 20-year-old video

Evangeline Lilly has announced she is retiring from acting, also sharing an old clip of her predicting the step away from Hollywood.

Blockbuster franchises have dominated movie theaters for decades, and Canadian author and actress Evangeline Lilly has proudly starred in two of the very biggest. The 44-year-old is best known for the character of Hope van Dyne aka Wasp in the Marvel Cinematic Universe but has also portrayed Tauriel in The Hobbit trilogy, a prequel to The Lord Of The Rings. Also a huge name in the world of TV thanks to the likes of Lost (she played Kate Austen), Evangeline is a figure many couldn’t fathom stepping away from her craft—until now.

Evangeline Lilly has announced her retirement and predicted it too

Much to the surprise of fans, Evangeline has announced on Instagram she is retiring from Hollywood and acting.

“I am so filled with joy and contentment today as I live out my vision,” she wrote. “Praise God, I feel so grateful for my blessings. Stepping away from what seems like the obvious choice (wealth and fame) can feel scary at times, but stepping into your dharma replaces the fear with fulfillment.”

Teasing a potential comeback, she acknowledged that she “might return to Hollywood one day, but, for now, this is where I belong. A new season has arrived, and I am ready… and I am happy.”

The announcement in itself has been a lot for fans to digest, but even more so considering she accompanied it with a video of her on the set of Lost (2004-2010) being asked where she sees herself in 10 years.

“I am terrified to admit this to the rest of the acting world,” she confessed in the old clip, “but ideally 10 years from now, I’d like to be a retired actress and I would like to have a family…”

Although off by some years, Evangeline acknowledged the video in her retirement post. “Thank you for digging up this (nearly twenty-year-old) footage of me speaking out my dreams under (what looks like) a full moon,” she wrote, expressing gratitude to a fan of the iconic show who dug it up.

Fans wish her well, but Marvel fans have one major hope

There has been an outpouring of support for her since the bombshell, with many expressing they’ll miss her dearly but respect her decision to make the pivotal leap.

On the other hand, MCU lovers have voiced hope they’ll see her reprise her beloved role in the superhero world. “Will you still play the Wasp in the Marvel Cinematic Universe?” one asked eagerly.

“I hope you return in Secret Wars and Avengers 5,” another fan reacted. “Just to get closure on Wasp.” They did congratulate her and wish her good luck too though.

“I don’t want to think that you will leave acting permanently, I want to believe that you will take a break, I hope so, and then you will come back,” somebody commented.

Mourning what more could’ve been for the character, another admitted: “I will miss you in Avengers, but I support your next steps in life.”

Well, she did say she might return one day….
