Tottenham confirm they have released four youngsters, including ‘outstanding’ defender who was tipped for big future

The summer brings about an exciting time for Tottenham Hotspur supporters as the club eye transfer deals.

Ange Postecoglou is expected to oversee significant changes to the current squad this summer, with Tottenham preparing for a return to European football.

But the end of the season can also mark a disappointing time for youngsters as their futures are determined.

Spurs have plenty of talented prospects coming through the academy set-up at the moment, including the likes of Mikey Moore and Jamie Donley, who both made their debuts last season.

Unfortunately, not every youngster will make the grade at Spurs and the club has announced four departures in the academy.

Tottenham release four youngsters

Tottenham have today announced that Charlie Sayers, Billy Heaps, Kieran Morgan and Han Willhoft-King will be leaving the club.

Heaps racked up a total of 21 appearances for the Under-18s after arriving from Stevenage in 2019.

Morgan has joined Championship outfit QPR while Willhoft-King will be on the lookout for a new club alongside Heaps.

As for Sayers, he was snapped up from Southend United in 2021 after impressing under former Hull City boss Phil Brown.

The left-back made a total of six appearances for the Essex-based club in the National League during the 2021/22 campaign, which led to Brown tipping him for a big future in the game.

What Phil Brown said about Charlie Sayers

“I think Charlie Sayers has been outstanding and you have to say he has a career ahead of him, there’s no doubt about it,” Brown told the BCS Echo back in October 2021.

“He’s got two games under his belt now but is he going to make mistakes as a 17-year-old boy? Absolutely. But on Tuesday he had a team on Tuesday that was protecting him.”

“Charlie has set a great example of what this club has been about for the last 10 years and that’s decent young players,” the former Premier League boss added.

“I’ve not always had the benefit of that because we’ve always sold them on but where Charlie is concerned his dad looks after him which is a great shout.

“He hasn’t got an agent which is also a great shout so all he’s got is the manager’s voice in his ear and hopefully he’s here for a long time.”

It hasn’t quite worked out for Sayers at Tottenham, despite racking up 40 appearances for the academy sides.

But based on his performances for Southend as a 17-year-old, we’re sure the defender will have no trouble finding a new club over the coming weeks.
