'Mark my words': Pundit teases that Inter Miami could sign player who just played in the Champions League final

Taylor Twellman has teased that Inter Miami could sign a player this summer who just played in the UEFA Champions League final.

The Herons are set for a huge few weeks with Lionel Messi away at the Copa America and Inter Miami tasked with maintaining their Supporters’ Shield title push without their superstar forward.

As well as the no Messi factor, the opening of the summer transfer window will see Inter Miami once again dip into the market, where a defender is needed following the season-ending injury to Nicolas Freire.

And Inter Miami could now make a huge signing in the coming weeks.

Twellman suggests Champions League finalist is wanted by Inter Miami

Speaking on Twellman’s Takes, the MLS pundit made the sly suggestion that Inter Miami could make a swoop for a player who recently starred in last Saturday’s Champions League final between Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund.

Given the superstar names on show that day at Wembley Stadium, Inter Miami making an audacious move for one a Champions League finalist could be what keeps the Herons alive in the Supporters’ Shield race.

Twellman said when discussing Inter Miami’s transfer plans: “Since Messi signed in MLS, rumors are abound about incoming players. Still, a center-back is coming this summer, mark my words.

“The question is, will it be a friend of the family who will play for short money since Messi is there, he might have just played in the Champions League final [eyebrow raise], or will it be a younger player on loan. Either way, the number one seed in MLS still needs reinforcements.”

Inter Miami could have something massive planned behind the scenes

Inter Miami’s transfer business leading into the summer window has been sealed tight in an impressive manner, with the Herons clearly after a defender yet which ones are yet to be identified.

However, with a figure as well-informed as Twellman potentially letting slip that a big name could be heading to Inter Miami this summer, something big could be in the works behind the scenes.

Indeed, Inter Miami need a top quality defender signed this summer if they’re to challenge for the Supporters’ Shield, and a player who featured in the biggest game in club soccer would certainly fit the bill.
