Report: Tottenham want to sign £26m player Arsenal have bid for, but he has no interest in joining Spurs

Tottenham want to sign an Arsenal target this summer – but he has no desire to join Spurs.

In fact, the Gunners are even said to have submitted a bid – according to sources in Spain – and seem well placed to defeat their north London rivals in this particular transfer battle.

So, what is the situation involving Arsenal and Tottenham? Let’s take a look…

Arsenal target not interested in Tottenham

A story by AS in Spain states that Tottenham are very keen to sign Girona No.8 Viktor Tsygankov this summer after his incredible 2023/24 campaign.

The Ukraine international helped Girona qualify for the UEFA Champions League for the first time in their history with eight goals and seven assists across 30 appearances in La Liga – which secured third place behind Real Madrid and Barcelona.

AS believe Spurs have sat up and taken notice of Tsygankov after his efforts last season, although the winger is only interested in joining a club who can provide UEFA Champions League football.

Therefore, the Ukrainian has no desire to join Tottenham – although he is open to signing for Arsenal.

AS add that Tsygankov – who has been compared to Gareth Bale – has a €30m (£26m) release clause written into his contract at Girona.

UEFA Champions League could be a theme of the summer for Spurs

Ange Postecoglou could well be reminded of Tottenham’s failure to qualify for the UEFA Champions League quite often this summer – as we expect this to be a common theme when it comes to chasing transfer targets.

Everyone wants to be in the UEFA Champions League nowadays, so unless Spurs start to shop in the UEFA Conference League market and offer players an upgrade into the UEFA Europa League, the problem with Tsygankov could repeat itself throughout the summer.

That could – however – work in Postecoglou’s favour, as those who do join Spurs are likely to be more committed and proud to represent Tottenham, like Guglielmo Vicario, rather than sign for the north Londoners just to play UEFA Champions League football.

Be sure to keep an eye on developments at Tottenham, as signings are expected – just not Tsygankov.
