Report: Manchester United want £50m centre-back who's 'one of the best in the Premier League' for one-on-ones

Manchester United have a busy summer ahead of them as they look to kick on following a difficult 2023/24 campaign.

The Red Devils salvaged their season by winning the FA Cup and qualifying for the Europa League, but they struggled in the Premier League and in Europe.

Manchester United’s defence is likely to be strengthened over the coming months amid injuries at the back, poor form and expiring contracts.

Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite is said to be a top target for the Red Devils, but his £70million-plus price tag may be too expensive for them.

As a result, Manchester United have some alternatives on their wishlist, as reported by GiveMeSport.

One of those is said to be Wolverhampton Wanderers captain Max Kilman, while Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi is reportedly on their list too.

Kilman is said to be the cheaper of the two Premier League players at £50million, though Wolves don’t want to lose him in the summer.

The likes of Goncalo Inacio, Jean-Clair Todibo, Leny Yoro, Gleison Bremer, Antonio Silva and Aaron Anselmino have also been linked with the Red Devils.

Who is Manchester United target Max Kilman?

Max Kilman has proven himself in the Premier League in recent years, both as a defender and as Wolves’ captain.

The 27-year-old joined Wolves on a free transfer from Maidenhead United back in 2018, and he has gone on to make 151 appearances in old gold.

Kilman is not only superb with the ball at his feet, but he has been deemed one of the best defenders in the league in terms of one-v-ones.

Andy Thompson said on Wolves Weekly Matchday Live Extra following the loss to Arsenal in April: “He’s probably one of the best in the Premier League one-vs-one defending.

“He just seems to get better every time we see him. He’s comfortable on the ball. he heads it, he’ll pass it, he challenges for things, he’s strong, he’s a good player and he’s getting better.”
