Liverpool now reportedly want 24-year-old PL player who has 'so many similarities' to Mo Salah

Liverpool have a busy summer ahead of them as they look to kick on following a mixed 2023/24 campaign.

The Reds were in the picture for a quadruple earlier this year, but had to settle for just the Carabao Cup in Jurgen Klopp’s final season at Anfield.

Now, with Arne Slot at the Liverpool helm and some notable backroom changes, the Reds will be eager to give their new manager what he needs for 2024/25.

Now, according to a report from France, Liverpool have set their sights on a player who is said to have “so many similarities” to Mohamed Salah.

The player in question is Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo and, according to L’Equipe, the Reds and Newcastle are in pursuit of the attacking ace.

Liverpool and Newcastle have reportedly been eyeing the 24-year-old ‘for some time’ and, with two years left on his contract, there’s certainly scope for a deal to be done.

What has been said about Liverpool and Bryan Mbeumo?

Earlier this season, Tony Cascarino told talkSPORT that Liverpool should move for Mbeumo when Salah departs Anfield.

“When we lose, because we will lose Mo Salah, I want Bryan Mbeumo,” he said in October 2023.

“I want Bryan Mbeumo because I think he’s got so many similarities to what Mo Salah does.

“His durability, his ability to get goals, his ability to play different positions.

“He always gets chances, he creates chances and I think he’s going to have the best season of his career at Brentford this year.

“You have to remind yourself that Bryan Mbeumo is only 24.

“I think he’s the unfortunate one out of the BMW, the [Ollie] Watkins, [Said] Benrahma, Mbeumo.

“The other two have moved on and they’ve had these big moves and Bryan stayed.

“But in a funny way I think Watkins has done really, really well, maybe not so well Benrahma, but Mbeumo’s been brilliant for Brentford.”

How much could Liverpool have to pay for Bryan Mbeumo?

L’Equipe’s article doesn’t mention a price tag, and there aren’t any other new articles which suggest how much Brentford value Mbeumo.

In terms of a ballpark figure, Transfermarkt‘s latest valuation of Mbeumo -as of 27 May 2024 – stands at €40million, or around £34million.
