'Playing very well': Dirk Kuyt previously lauded 'complete' £28m talent who reportedly fancies Liverpool move

Liverpool are likely to be busy in the summer transfer window as the club looks to give Arne Slot the best possible start at Anfield.

With Slot taking over from Jurgen Klopp in the Liverpool dugout, a new era is now set to begin at Anfield.

Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes will do all they can to ensure Slot’s Liverpool can hit the ground running next season.

We’re likely to see reinforcements in the Liverpool back line. With Joel Matip leaving the club, the Reds will need a replacement.

Speculation is continuing to do the rounds regarding a player who knows Slot quite well and has even earned praise from Anfield cult hero Dirk Kuyt.

The player in question is Feyenoord’s Lutsharel Geertruida, who Algemeen Dagblad say is on the radar of Liverpool, Tottenham, Newcastle and West Ham.

With regards to the 23-year-old’s future, he has one year left on his contract and the new manager ‘will not have Geertruida at his disposal, according to the report.

Better yet for Liverpool and their rival suitors, the report claims Feyenoord ‘is expected to be a lot lower than last summer’, when a potential £28million move to RB Leipzig collapsed.

De Telegraaf, another Dutch outlet, previously reported that Geertruida ‘is ready for a transfer and would love to join Arne Slot to Liverpool’.

What has Liverpool cult hero Dirk Kuyt said about Lutsharel Geertruida?

In April 2023, just a few months after Cody Gakpo joined the Reds from PSV Eindhoven, Kuyt told the Liverpool Echo: “I am a Feyenoord man and they are doing very well at the moment.

“They have a very good manager in Arne Slot and some of the younger guys like Orkun Kokcu and Lutsharel Geertruida are knocking on the door and playing very well.

“It won’t take long for the interest of top European teams to be there for them. I hope Liverpool is interested in Feyenoord players, and I am an example it can work!

“When I was working as under-19s coach, Kokcu and Geertruida were in my team at the time.

“At Ajax you now have the likes of Jurrien Timber and Kenneth Taylor, who we were playing against.

“You know who the talented players are and you can see they are going to have big futures.

“Gakpo was a great talent and everyone knew from watching him at youth level that he would one day play for a club like Liverpool.”

Geertruida is in the Netherlands squad for Euro 2024, so the Reds will probably be keeping tabs on the “complete and dominant” defender.

Then, let’s see what happens post-tournament on the transfer front. There’s a good chance Geertruida will leave Feyenoord in the summer, so Liverpool will fancy their chances of getting a deal over the line if they so wish.
