'Will return': 'Outstanding' £4.5m gem now set to be with Wolves for 2024/25 season - journalist

A player who has spent the last 18 months away from Wolves will reportedly now be welcomed back into the picture by Gary O’Neil.

It’s a big summer coming up for Wolves, who tailed off at the end of last season as a result of fatigue setting in on a small squad.

Injuries saw form take a nosedive, and ultimately the club finished 14th in the Premier League. But there were positive signs throughout the campaign, and many feel optimistic Gary O’Neil can improve things further next season.

But he will need the backing of his superiors, which some are not entirely confident he will get.

While new recruits will hopefully be coming in, it could well be that O’Neil turns to players who have been out on loan – and it looks like he’s set to do that with Yerson Mosquera

Wolves need at least one new centre-half this summer, after using three at a time for the majority of 2023/24.

O’Neil would often only have one in reserve, with the man mostly being Santi Bueno, as Max Kilman, Craig Dawson and Toti Gomes were used in the back three.

Dawson is not getting any younger, and Wolves fans know he picked up an injury towards the end of 2023/24, for which he required surgery.

So, it has been reported by journalist Julian Capera that Yerson Mosquera is now heading back to Wolves after his loan spell with Villarreal. He wrote on X: “Despite Villarreal’s interest in extending the loan, Yerson Mosquera will return to Wolverhampton.

“After his great semester, the English team awaits him for preseason after Copa América.”

The Copa America gets underway from June 20, and concludes on July 14. Colombia are in a group with Brazil, Paraguay and Costa Rica.

Mosquera could be like a new signing for Wolves

So it sounds as though Mosquera will be sticking around at Wolves for the 2024/25 season, which is exciting.

By many accounts, Mosquera has enjoyed two really solid loan stints at FC Cincinnati and Villarreal, and has firmly put his injury problems behind him. Pathways manager Steve David said last year that Mosquera’s time at Cincinnati had been ‘outstanding’.

The desire for Wolves was always for their £4.5 million signing Mosquera to get back playing again and get back on track after a highly frustrating first season at Molineux.

Apparently, O’Neil is really keen on Mosquera and feels he could well have an impact in the Premier League. Fans saw in his first pre-season how aggressive he was, and that could serve him very well in the English top-flight.
