Aston Villa can’t hesitate to sell £50m Arsenal and Liverpool target to unearth next Jack Grealish

Aston Villa will face a difficult scenario this summer due to PSR concerns, with it likely that the club will have to offload a key player for profit.

After securing Champions League football, Unai Emery would have hoped to move freely in the transfer window this summer.

Unfortunately, the manager will be closely monitoring the spending due to Aston Villa’s PSR concerns, with it likely that Villa will be in a sell-to-buy situation in the market, as per The Athletic.

Due to this, several stars have had their future at Villa speculated as the club faces having to reluctantly part ways with valued assets.

Jacob Ramsey and Douglas Luiz named in method to ease Aston Villa PSR concerns

A report by the Daily Mail claimed that Villa are ‘open to selling’ Douglas Luiz, Jacob Ramsey and Jhon Duran to ease PSR woes.

Luiz, who is said to be valued at £50m by Villa, as per Gianluca Di Marzio, has generated interest from Juventus, Arsenal and Liverpool already this summer.

Being one of Emery’s most important players in the current squad at Villa Park, it would be a great shame for the club to lose Luiz although, it may be necessary to avoid punishment.

Then comes the situation surrounding Ramsey, the Bodymoor Heath talent is Villa’s most valuable asset based on the fact that a sale would deliver pure profit.

As a home-grown player, the 23-year-old could be a figure that Villa consider parting ways with this summer however, this should be considered a last resort.

Villa must sacrifice Luiz to keep Ramsey at the club

While having to fill the void left by Luiz would be difficult for Emery to solve, the Brazilian’s departure would require simply a footballing solution.

Ramsey’s exit would account for much more than a player dropping out of Emery’s squad, with the Birmingham-born ace having the potential to follow in the footsteps of an academy graduate before him.

Villa secured £100m profit for the sale of Bodymoor Heath product Jack Grealish in 2021 and could strike a deal similar in the near future with Ramsey.

Last year, football finance expert Kieran Maguire pointed out that the sale of Grealish saved Villa from significant financial concerns in the 2021/22 season, as a day-to-day operating loss of £96m was reported.

Due to the Manchester City gem being sold for £100m profit, the midfielder’s sale instead turned the losses into a profit, signalling the importance of unearthing academy jewels in today’s game.

As well as being a player who could generate significant profit for the club, the Englishman still has a lot to offer Emery’s side, as seen in his performances over the 2022/23 season.

The 23-year-old became an integral part of the XI last term, and had the 2023/24 campaign not been plagued by injury, his quality and subsequently his value, would have increased.

If the price to keep Ramsey is Luiz then it is a price worth paying for Villa, who in time could become either a cult hero or a player sold for high profit, just as Grealish was.

It would be smart for Villa to try and keep a firm grip on Ramsey, who could follow in the footsteps of Grealish, a situation that few clubs find themselves in the position to achieve.
