PL rival now overtake Wolves in race for 17-goal striker, they're confident they'll get him - Fabrizio Romano

Che Adams is a player firmly on Wolves’ transfer radar – but an update from Fabrizio Romano this afternoon will have some fans frustrated.

Wolves are after at least one new striker this summer, and Adams remains a target for the club, having been one in each of the last two windows.

Wolves tried to land him on deadline day in the 2023 summer window, but were blocked by Southampton at the eleventh hour. They then showed interest in January, but the Saints were not about to let him go mid-season as they chased promotion.

Adams’ contract runs out at the end of this month and he stands to become a free-agent.

That has obviously led to a number of clubs showing interest in him – and now, one of Wolves’ Premier League rivals has joined the hunt…

Wolves are seeking to bolster their attacking options this summer, with a new striker and wide player thought to be on the agenda.

O’Neil is seeking a bigger squad heading into next season, after seeing injuries destroy his side’s chances of pushing for European football.

Adams is a player he likes. But Fabrizio Romano has given an update this afternoon – and Wolves have competition over the Scotland international, who scored 17 goals for Southampton in 2023/24.

He wrote on X: “Nottingham Forest currently ahead of Wolves for Che Adams after improved proposal made to the striker. #NFFC confident to get it done soon, waiting to seal the agreement.”

Wolves now racing against time

This update will not go down well with some Wolves fans, who are crying out for a bit of good news amid the frustration over ticket prices at the moment.

Many supporters are becoming more and more disillusioned with supporting Wolves, but some have remained optimistic that the club will enjoy a productive summer in the transfer market.

But it looks as though Nottingham Forest have stolen a march on Wolves in the race for Adams.

We know he’s a player O’Neil wants.

It will not be a good look if the club are beaten to him by Forest, a Premier League rival who finished lower than Wanderers. Only a few weeks ago, Wolves were said to be ‘confident’ of landing Adams, so this would be hard to stomach for some.
