Report: Everton ready to launch £17m bid to sign player who Aston Villa were 'in love' with last year

Everton are now ready to put forward £17m to offer a former Premier League midfielder a return to England.

A lot is still needing to be resolved at Goodison Park over the coming months with Sean Dyche‘s men retaining their Premier League status for another year.

Farhad Moshiri remains in talks with multiple different parties over a potential takeover at Everton with a proposed deal with 777 collapsing recently.

New talks have been held with prospective buyers at Everton with one of the offers even providing a fresh twist.

However, Everton still find themselves in a position where they are going to have to sell players before the 30 June PSR deadline.

Despite this, Dyche’s side are still looking to bolster their squad with some new arrivals and a former Premier League midfielder is of interest to the Toffees.

Everton eyeing Premier League return for £17m midfielder

One midfielder could be headed for the exit on Merseyside this summer in Amadou Onana with the Belgian receiving interest from across the league.

Onana is believed to have attracted attention from the likes of Manchester United ahead of the summer window opening.

The Belgian is a player who could provide Everton with some financial relief and it seems they could have a cheaper replacement in mind already.

According to TEAMTALK, Everton cannot be ruled out of the race to sign Matteo Guendouzi from Marseille this summer.

The Frenchman joined the Ligue 1 side permanently in 2022 and has since been out on loan to Italian side Lazio – with his stay to be made permanent this summer.

Just years on from leaving Arsenal, the 25-year-old may be set to return to England with Aston Villa and Newcastle United also credited with interest in the report.

Everton are said to have approached Lazio over a potential deal but their €20m (£17m) offer is believed to be €10m short of what the Italian side want.

Aston Villa pushed for Matteo Guendouzi last summer

Villa are still believed to hold interest in Guendouzi this summer, but last year, Unai Emery’s side really pushed for the Frenchman.

“Yes, the focus for Aston Villa is Guendouzi. Yes, absolutely they want this player. Unai Emery is in love with this player,” Fabrizio Romano said last year.

Since, Villa have gone on to qualify for the Champions League and retain their interest this summer which will naturally provide Everton with stern competition.

Guendouzi’s stats from the 2023/24 campaign may not exactly stand out as being that impressive, but if Villa are also interested, then perhaps Everton are looking along the right path.
