Report: Nottingham Forest were leading race for 'fantastic' striker but now he's joining PL rivals instead

Nottingham Forest have now been hit with a fresh transfer blow after they looked set to land their first summer deal.

Instead, the player in question now looks set to join Wolverhampton Wanderers despite strong reports linking him with Forest.

Nuno Espirito Santo‘s side face an interesting month with Forest one of the sides who are needing to sell players before 30 June to abide with PSR rules.

Despite this, Evangelos Marinakis‘ side are still being linked with a number of potential arrivals ahead of the summer transfer window opening.

Forest are believed to be closing in on a deal for Corinthians goalkeeper Carlos Miguel with the player now ‘ready to play’ for Nuno.

However, there is another reported transfer target who now looks set to snub a potential move to the City Ground with a move to Wolves lined up.

Nottingham Forest set to lose out to Wolves over summer target

According to reports on Thursday afternoon, Forest were set to complete their first signing of the summer with the free agent Che Adams.

The former Southampton striker departed the south coast in recent days as he looks set to sign elsewhere on a free.

Fabrizio Romano claimed Forest were now leading the race with an agreement expected to be sealed shortly.

However, there has been a fresh twist.

As per a report from the Daily Record, the Scotland international is now set to sign for Wolves despite the report from Romano.

Having seen an £18m bid rejected last summer for the 27-year-old, Wolves now look set to get their man.

In what has been a major twist in the race for Adams, Forest look as if they are going to have to look elsewhere for a new striker.

Che Adams now needs to prove himself in the Premier League

The Scotsman is heading into the 2024/25 campaign having scored 15 goals in the Championship to help Southampton bounce straight back up to the top flight.

Adams has Premier League experience having netted 25 times in 124 appearances in the English top flight.

Clearly, that is not the record of a prolific striker with Chris Wood having returned 15 league goals alone over the 2023/24 season.

His former manager Ralph Hasenhuttl has previously hailed the striker as “fantastic“, but he has a lot to prove if he is to be considered a reliable striker in the Premier League.

Adams may well have enjoyed a positive campaign in the Championship, but converting those goals into the Premier League may prove a difficult challenge for the striker.
