Report: ‘Exceptional’ player Nottingham Forest wanted in January now wants summer transfer

Nottingham Forest could now see their January interest in a Premier League player revived as he looks for a summer move.

A turbulent 2023/24 campaign has now been put to bed for Nottingham Forest who sealed their Premier League survival by the skin of their teeth.

Now, Nuno Espirito Santo will need to navigate a complex summer transfer window with Forest needing to sell players before June 30 to avoid further FFP breaches.

However, that does not mean the City Ground will not be seeing new players arrive this summer with Forest having multiple areas they’re looking to improve.

And one of those positions is one which has proven a real issue all season long and saw Evangelos Marinakis try to address it in the January transfer window.

The player who Forest were unable to bring in over the winter window may now be set to leave his current club as he seeks a new challenge this summer.

Forest could revive interest in January transfer target

Between the sticks has been a real issue for Forest this season with three goalkeepers having rotated throughout the course of the term.

Matz Sels, Matt Turner and Odysseas Vlachodimos have all had their chances in goal for Forest this season with Nuno unable to land his January target.

However, it now seems that target from earlier in the year would now potentially be open to leaving his current club over the summer in search of more regular football.

Liverpool’s Caoimhin Kelleher is believed to have been of interest to Forest in January as Nuno struggled to nail down his starting goalkeeper.

According to The Athletic, Forest were unable to land the Ireland international over January as they could not meet Liverpool’s financial demands.

But the 25-year-old is now looking to leave Anfield over the coming months having spent another season behind Alisson Becker.

A new goalkeeper is clearly a key priority for Nuno going into the summer with the report also sharing interest in the likes of Koen Casteels and Andrew Ventura.

What Jurgen Klopp said about Caoimhin Kelleher

Although the Irishman is Liverpool’s second choice goalkeeper, Kelleher has still played 26 times this season across all competitions.

Almost half (10) of those appearances came in the Premier League when Liverpool’s Brazilian number one was absent through injury.

Kelleher has become an incredibly dependable option for Liverpool in recent years having played in numerous cup finals which has seen him receive big praise from Jurgen Klopp.

““He was outstanding [against Brentford]. I don’t know exactly who is the number one for Ireland but if they have a better goalkeeper, respect. He’s outstanding,” Klopp told the media earlier this year.

“We will see how long Alisson is out, but Caoimhin is exceptional.”
