'Zillion times better': Don Hutchison thinks there is one thing missing from Newcastle's new Adidas kit

The new Newcastle United kit is here, as Adidas return to Tyneside.

The wait is finally over as Adidas launched the new Newcastle United home kit on Friday morning, signalling their arrival as Castore’s replacement at St James’ Park.

It is a landmark deal from a financial perspective, and one that fans are absolutely buzzing about. There is already a huge amount of demand for the new home shirt, with fans queueing outside the new temporary club shop located over the road to St James’ Park.

That sums up how keen Toon fans are to sample what Adidas has to offer, while it is also a testament to how aesthetically pleasing the new shirt is. It is an absolute beauty, as Adidas pay tribute to the shirt they produced during the Sir Bobby Robson era in 2001.

Don Hutchison thinks something is missing from Newcastle United’s new Adidas kit

It really is a beautiful shirt, but pundit and Toon fan Don Hutchison has one issue with it.

He has taken to X to comment on the Newcastle United shirt, and believes that Adidas have missed a trick.

Hutchison wrote: “It would have been a zillion times better and more iconic with the old skool Adidas crest. In fact all Adidas strips should have the old skool crest.”

Two more special Newcastle United kits on the way from Adidas

If the new Newcastle United kit had the Adidas Originals logo on it, I think most of Tyneside would be bankrupt by now!

As Hutchison says, that would have taken it to an even greater level, but that certainly should not discredit what Adidas have produced.

Their fist Newcastle shirt since 2010 really has been worth the wait, and it is exciting to see what else they create for the 2024/25 season. The away and third kits are still to come, both of which are expected to pay tribute to the past – just like the home shirt.

Toon fans are going to get another remake of the iconic burgundy and navy hoops shirt, which was made famous by Kevin Keegan’s team in the 90s. There is also a white third kit on the way, which is reminiscent of what the Magpies wore during the 1999/2000 season. That is set to include a retro badge, which is a nice touch.

But they will all feature the standard Adidas logo, rather than the Adidas Originals one.
