Rangers need favour from familiar face in pursuit of £6m forward, he wants Ibrox move

Rangers have already strengthened the forward line next season and have seen other names linked with moves to join Philippe Clement’s revolution.

Oscar Cortes is a welcome addition to the squad and Nils Koppen is pushing hard to bring Albion Rrahmani from Rapid Bucharest, but there is still a lot of work to do.

Money will be paid to confirm Mohamed Diomande’s transfer to Rangers which leaves the manager with a decision or two to make, especially with one potential target proving hard to get.

Brighton stall on Rangers move for Abdallah Sima

Koppen will be wanting to get as many players as possible in for the start of pre-season and Abdallah Sima will be near to the top of his shopping list, if the price is right.

Speaking towards the end of the season, Clement couldn’t be clearer about whether or not he wanted the Senegal international back at Ibrox on a permanent basis:

“That is about us, him and Brighton,” said Clement.

“We were really happy with what he showed.

“We see him as somebody with potential to grow, he is very happy in this building.

“There is a club that is his owner so you need to find an agreement so we will see what is going to happen there.

“You don’t know what way that will go. It depends what their demands are and what we can pay. It is always like that.”

Rangers still in pole position for Sima move

Initially, it was thought that the asking price Brighton might ask would be the only stumbling block, however, there has been a spanner in the works.

According to The Rangers Review, Brighton aren’t going to make a decision on Sima’s future until the appoint a new manager following the departure of Roberto de Zerbi.

With only a year left on his contract, a decision on the £6m signing from Slavia Prague is more likely to be in the hands of former Rangers captain and assistant manager, David Weir.

Even if the new manager rates Sima, the 22-year old only has a year left on his contract.

Brighton aren’t the type of club to let players leave for free.

After three years of loan deals, Sima is unlikely to want to sign a new contract just to be put out on loan again.

He has loved his time in Glasgow and has been optimistic about returning during the summer transfer window.

If ever there was a time for Weir to do Rangers a favour.
