In a warning letter sent to parents by Mark Askew, head of Bottisham Primary Community School, they were told: “We received a report from a parent who has informed us that their child was approached yesterday, near school, by a man in a black Vauxhall Corsa car. The driver of the car offered a chocolate bar to the child before driving away, which was possibly as a result of some vigilant members of the public who witnessed this interaction and helped the young girl.

“Whilst I do not wish to alarm you, and I know you will continue to be as vigilant as always of your children’s whereabouts, I felt it important to let you know.”

A Cambridgeshire police spokesperson confirmed they had received a report of the incident, which took place on Tuesday (May 4) on Beechwood Avenue in Bottisham.

The spokesperson said: “A child was given a chocolate bar by a man in a car. We have spoken with the child and the parents and checks are being carried out around the man.

Neighbourhood officers are also patrolling when they can. We would urge anyone concerned about suspicious activity to contact us in the first instance.”
