Newcastle star Bruno Guimaraes has just named the best player in the world

Newcastle United star Bruno Guimaraes surely has an argument to be the club’s best player.

Teammate Alexander Isak may have been hailed as a “generational talent” after a fantastic season for Newcastle but Guimaraes is perhaps more reliable.

Indeed, he missed only one game during a chaotic campaign for Eddie Howe’s side and his importance cannot be overstated.

They have not won a single Premier League game he’s missed since joining the club in January 2022, making the idea of him leaving a huge concern.

The numbers would certainly back that up too. As per WhoScored data, the 26-year-old ranks within the top five of Howe’s squad for tackles (2.4), interceptions (0.9) and key passes (1.7) per game.

Throw in his seven goals (fourth in the squad) and eight assists (third in the squad) and it’s obvious that Guimaraes is the beating heart of Newcastle.

The hope, at some point, is that Guimaraes will be lead the team back into the Champions League of course.

Watching him strut his stuff on the grandest stage was fantastic in the season just gone and it would only be natural for him to want to return to those levels, whether that’s at Newcastle or somewhere else.

A regular for Brazil too, Guimaraes has certainly seen his fair share of supreme talents.

Now, he’s named who he believes is the best in the world.

Speaking to TNT Sports, Guimaraes backed Brazil teammate and Real Madrid star Vinicius Jr as the world’s best player, tipping him for the Ballon d’Or.

“I believe it could be fundamental, I believe that from my point of view Vini has to be [chosen], no matter what happens,” he said.

“But I’m not the one who votes, I’m not the one who does these things, so I believe it could weigh on him. We’re going to do our best here to help Vini too because he’s a kid who deserves it a lot and for me he’s already the best in the world.”
