Report: 'Incredible' player has stopped contract talks with Liverpool, he wants to join another club

One Liverpool player has put his contract talks on hold as he eyes a move to a different club this summer.

The Arne Slot era has begun at Anfield, and the new Reds boss has a lot of decisions to make about the futures of some of his players.

One of them has been offered a new Liverpool contract, but he’s thinking of returning to one of his former clubs this summer.

Adrian puts Liverpool contract talks on hold

Liverpool signed Adrian on a free transfer in the summer of 2019.

The Spaniard had made a decent name for himself at West Ham United, but once his contract expired there, the Reds snapped him up.

Adrian was brought in as a replacement for Simon Mignolet. He was always only going to be a backup to Alisson and in recent years, he has dropped down to being the third choice.

However, Liverpool surprised everyone when they announced this week that they had offered him a new contract to extend his stay at the club.

Adrian, who Jurgen Klopp hailed as ‘incredible’ in 2019 (Guardian), seems to have different plans.

Mundo Deportivo claim that Real Betis are interested in re-signing the Liverpool goalkeeper, 11 years after he left the club.

The report claims that Adrian would be ‘delighted’ to join the Spanish side, so much so that he has ‘parked’ talks with Liverpool over a new contract.

Talks between Betis and Adrian have already begun, and it will be interesting to see what will happen in the coming days.

Liverpool could have a big goalkeeper issue soon

Adrian brings experience to this Liverpool side, but losing the Spaniard would not be a huge problem as he rarely ever plays.

The former West Ham star didn’t get a single minute of game time in the 2023/24 season, while he only played one game each in the two previous campaigns.

The issue Liverpool could have is if Caoimhin Kelleher leaves the club along with Adrian when the summer window opens.

The Irishman has made it clear that he wants to be the number one, and it won’t be a surprise at all if he asks for a move away to take the next step in his career.

If that happens and Adrian leaves too, Liverpool will need to sign two goalkeepers this summer, both of whom will only be backups to Alisson.

The twist in the tale here is that the Brazilian has been linked with a move away too, with Saudi clubs preparing a ‘monster offer’ to sign Alisson this summer.

If Liverpool are not careful, they could soon be without any senior goalkeeper in the squad, but that’s unlikely to happen/
