'X-factor': Paul Merson says £60m player reportedly wanted by Spurs could be Euro 2024's breakout 'superstar'

Tottenham Hotspur are likely to be busy in the summer transfer window as they look to bolster their ranks ahead of next season.

Spurs enjoyed a decent season under Ange Postecoglou, finishing fifth in the table, but with a bit more consistency, they could’ve secured a top-four spot.

As a result, Tottenham could well look to make numerous additions – as well as offloading players surplus to requirements – in the coming weeks.

Now, a Premier League forward said to be on Spurs’ radar has been backed to make a huge name for himself at Euro 2024.

The player in question is Eberechi Eze, who TBR Football understands has a £60million release clause and is wanted by Tottenham and Liverpool.

Eze has gone from strength to strength at Crystal Palace and is in the England squad for this summer’s tournament in Germany.

What has Paul Merson said about Tottenham target Eberechi Eze?

Merson wrote on Sky Sports about England’s chances at Euro 2024 in wake of Gareth Southgate’s squad selection earlier this week.

“Going forward England have so many options,” said Merson.

“The problem for Southgate will be getting those options right. If he doesn’t get them right, England will be up against it.

“It’s hard to pick the forward line. Saka never lets his country down when he plays. Eze just glides past players and looks like the X-factor.

“At tournaments, you always get a player who comes out of the blue and becomes a superstar. We’ve seen it at World Cups and Euros over the years. For me, Eze could be that player.”

Eberechi Eze would be a great signing for Tottenham

Postecoglou has laid some good foundations at Tottenham, and now the club needs to kick on with some more great additions.

Eze looks like he’d be a good fit for a Postecoglou team, as he’s a tactically aware and fluid talent who has maverick-type qualities which the Spurs boss loves.

Let’s see what happens in the coming weeks. Obviously Eze won’t come cheap, but with a £60million bid, Palace won’t be able to stand in his way.
