'I think': Atletico Madrid president says £14m player is not leaving Man City in the summer amid recent links

Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has claimed that one player is not leaving Manchester City this summer.

In a majority of transfer sagas, club presidents come out and have their say on a potential move. On certain occasions, such figures fuel the fire but in some instances, they extinguish the possibility of a rumoured transfer.

Atletico Madrid president says 24-year-old will stay at Man City

In recent weeks, Julian Alvarez has been linked with a move to Atletico Madrid — with a report on Tuesday claiming that the Spanish giants enquired about the prospect of a loan move with an option to buy.

On Thursday, it was claimed that Diego Simeone’s side had a “strong interest” in signing the 24-year-old from the Etihad Stadium.

But Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has spelt the end of a chance of Julian Alvarez heading to the Wanda Metropolitano.

Cerezo told Uno TV in Mexico: “Julian Alvarez is a Manchester City player and I think he is not going to move from there.”

Man City still have reason to be worried about if Alvarez stays

Even though a move to Atletico Madrid for Julian Alvarez has been ruled out by their president, Manchester City still have reasons to be worried about his future, in our view.

On Sunday, it was claimed that Paris Saint-Germain have spoken to the Argentine international’s representatives. A report on Friday stated that Chelsea were keen on bringing Alvarez to Stamford Bridge.

Both moves could appeal to the £14 million man, at least in theory.

PSG are kickstarting a new project after Kylian Mbappe’s exit in some ways and the World Cup winner could lead the club’s era into the future.

The French giants have won Ligue 1 on 10 out of the last 12 occasions while they remain one of the primary contenders to win the Champions League season upon season.

Chelsea, on the other hand, aim to rise to the top once again and their selling point to Julian Alvarez would be that he could spearhead that process.

In addition, the Champions League winner would have the chance to work under former Manchester City assistant manager Enzo Maresca if he joined the Blues.

Whether such projects appeal to Alvarez remains to be seen but until an indication emerges that he has ruled such moves out, his future will remain uncertain.
