Theo Walcott shares what Arsenal are 'missing' if they want to win the Premier League

Theo Walcott has shared what Mikel Arteta is missing from his squad if Arsenal want to win the Premier League next season.

The Gunners fell just two points off from winning their first league title in 20 years as Arsenal were unable to keep pace with Manchester City’s immaculate record in the Premier League in 2024.

Despite breaking numerous records this season, Arsenal are aware that they have to go one step further in the new campaign if they’re to finally best City and Pep Guardiola to the Premier League title.

And Walcott has now given his verdict on what Arsenal need to get over the finish line.

Walcott urges Arsenal to sign Premier League-proven striker

Speaking to the Sun, the Emirates Stadium icon suggested that signing a Premier League-proven striker could be what gives the Gunners the edge over City next season, with Walcott name-checking Alexander Isak and Ollie Watkins.

With the pair both linked with moves to Arsenal this summer, a striker who has shown he can do it in the Premier League could be a smart way for Arteta to finally clinch top spot, especially with a centre-forward being targeted this window.

Walcott said: “Arsenal did great, they competed throughout the whole season and learnt a lot from previous mistakes. I think what Mikel Arteta has done and the atmosphere at Arsenal is incredible. What we are missing is a striker, and to have that balance on the bench.

“I’d say that’s the one thing, maybe Mikel didn’t trust his bench as much. I’m looking at someone like an Alexander Isak or an Ollie Watkins who’s been established in the Premier League. We may look abroad but I’m a big believer in someone who is proven in the Premier League.”

Arsenal would be wise to listen to former star’s transfer advice

Arsenal’s recent run of signings from Premier League clubs has been nothing short of impressive, with Ben White, David Raya and Declan Rice undroppable members of Arteta’s best starting XI.

And signing a striker who has a good record in the English top-flight, like Walcott suggested, would be a smart route to take when it comes to signing a new talisman in the attack for next season.

Indeed, the names Walcott suggested would both thrive as Arsenal’s spearhead in the frontline, and whilst either player would be costly, big money has to spent if the Gunners are to win those extra points needed to finish above City.
