‘Outstanding’: Jason Cundy says he was so impressed by new Chelsea signing as well as Cole Palmer last season

Chelsea made sure they spent big again last summer in order to bolster the ranks for the season ahead.

With Mauricio Pochettino at the helm, the aim was to return to the European places, and they even smashed their transfer record again in order to bring in Moises Caicedo.

The undoubted best addition though was Cole Palmer, who came in on deadline day after a swift decision was made late in the window by the board.

He went on to be one of the best players in the league, and arguably the best summer addition in recent memory.

Palmer picked up both in-house club awards at their presentation evening, however the player he voted for also had an impressive first campaign.

Malo Gusto praised for ‘outstanding’ season

Malo Gusto was actually officially signed the January before, however didn’t join up with the first team until this season got underway.

Jason Cundy toldTalkSPORT that despite the headlines all going to Palmer, Gusto deserves plenty of praise for his showings last season.

He said: “Some of the players that have come in have done well. Cole Palmer is obviously the pick of the bunch. Gusto, by the way, I have got to tell you, for those who don’t know, Gusto has been outstanding. He has done brilliantly.”

The Frenchman played a large amount of last season in the absence of club captain Reece James, who featured in just two games in 2024.

The hope is that the surgery the England international underwent could put an end to his injury woes, and this could cause the first major selection headache for new manager Enzo Maresca when he arrives at Stamford Bridge.

There will no doubt be an appetite to see if Gusto can feature as successfully on the opposite side in order for both to feature in the strongest possible Chelsea side.
