Fabrizio Romano has given Chelsea fans a boost in reports that they could be about to beat one of their rivals to a big transfer this summer.
It is believed the Blues are going to be busy in market again this summer as they look to give adequate backing to yet another new manager in West London.
Enzo Maresca has been brought in to replace Mauricio Pochettino after just one season in charge, and the long-term contract suggests there is confidence he can take the project forwards.
Therefore, the club should do well to make shroud acquisitions, and have reportedly been put off a big-money move for Victor Osimhen despite their previous desire.
Instead, it has been reported that their number one priority signing at this stage is Michael Olise from Crystal Palace.
Chelsea more likely for Michael Olise than Manchester United
The winger enjoyed a fantastic campaign last time out despite the fact that he missed a large portion due to injuries.
He notably found the net at Stamford Bridge late in 2023, where he also gave top defenderLevi Colwill a real tough evening.
The Blues are not the only side who are keen on a deal for the Frenchman, with Manchester United also hot on a potential deal.
However, Romano said to The United Stand that at this stage Chelsea are further ahead in their efforts to get a deal done.
He said: “As it stands, Chelsea are further in the race for Michael Olise. Man United are still interested though, and will look to do a deal once the manager situation is concluded.
“Now, I will say Chelsea are in a different position. They already signed a new player in Tosin, they have their new manager and they are really pushing to make things happen as soon as possible.”
While some supporters perhaps raised some eyebrows when it was announced the inexperienced Maresca was announced as the new head coach at Chelsea, if a swift appointment puts them in a good place to complete a deal it will be seen as a real bonus.
