'Good chances': £35m Chelsea player could now be called up for the Euros - Fabrizio Romano

Chelsea will have several players involved at Euro 2024 this summer.

Cole Palmer and Conor Gallagher will both be representing England at the tournament being held in Germany.

Marc Cucurella, Armando Broja, Djordje Petrovic, Mykhailo Mudryk and Romelu Lukaku have also been called up for their respective countries.

In total, then, Chelsea will have seven players competing at the Euros.

However, that number could increase by one before the competition kicks off this Friday.

Which other Chelsea player could feature at Euro 2024?

Chelsea captain Reece James, Raheem Sterling, Ben Chilwell and Levi Colwill all would have been hoping to be named in Gareth Southgate’s England squad.

However, their Euro 2024 dreams were crushed after they were left out of it.

Ian Maatsen‘s, though, could still be alive.

According to Fabrizio Romano, following Frenkie de Jong’s injury, the left-back could now be called up to the Netherlands squad.

“Understand Ian Maatsen has good chances to be called up by [Ronald] Koeman,” the Italian journalist revealed on X.

Why Ian Maatsen going to Euro 2024 would be good news for Chelsea

It has been claimed that Chelsea do not want to sell Maatsen for less than £35m this summer.

Borussia Dortmund, where Maatsen spent the second half of last season on loan, are keen on signing him permanently.

However, according to Romano, the German club want a different price or else they are going to consider alternatives.

A good showing at Euro 2024 could perhaps convince Dortmund or another club to meet Chelsea’s £35m valuation.

Of course, having not been initially selected for the tournament, there is probably a strong possibility of Maatsen not getting a lot of game time in Germany if he is called up to replace De Jong. But if he does get minutes, then it is obviously in Chelsea’s best interest for him to play well.

Do that, and the Blues should get their £35m fee or something close to it in the upcoming transfer window.
