The story of the Godfather of Soul, James Brown, and his rise to fame is told in a stage show in Nottingham this weekend.
The James Brown Story comes to the Royal Concert Hall on Saturday night (June 15) exploring the life and career of the superstar in a live music spectacular.
Backed by a cast of actors, singers, dancers and a show-stopping funk orchestra, experience the creation of funk; learn of the troubles at the top, and; celebrate the legacy and unique mastery that James Brown brought to the stage.
It features his iconic hits such as ‘Sex Machine’, ‘It’s a Man’s World’, ‘I Feel Good’, ‘Papa’s Got A Brand New Bag’ and many more.
There is tribute to another iconic act at the Royal Concert Hall on Thursday, June 13, when Nick Mason’s Saucerful of Secrets takes to the stage.
Formed in 2018, Nick Mason’s Saucerful Of Secrets are Nick Mason, Gary Kemp, Guy Pratt, Lee Harris and Dom Beken and they play Pink Floyd’s celebrated and significant early body of work including tracks from the era of 1967’s The Piper At The Gates of Dawn through to 1972’s Obscured By Clouds, which has included a much lauded rendition of the 23 minute epic ‘Echoes’.
Very few bands are as culturally important as Pink Floyd. They are one of the best selling music artists of all time and Nick Mason is a co-founder and the only constant member of the band performing on all of their albums as well as all of their live shows.
And on June 14 there is the Drivetime Concert at 6pm with music inspired by the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris.
Presented by Ruth Rosales, The Halle will perform pieces written for the Games and from the host country as well as music that celebrates supreme feats of athleticism.
It includes John Williams’ Olympic Fanfare and Theme, Claude Joseph Rouget de Lisle’s La Marseillaise, Rossini’s Overture: William Tell, and Michael Giacchino’s Theme from The Incredibles.
