Report: After Benjamin Sesko blow, Arsenal are now unlikely to sign three other striker targets

Arsenal have been forced back to the drawing board after reportedly missing out on RB Leipzig Benjamin Sesko.

The Slovenian striker has opted to remain at Leipzig beyond the summer in what is a significant blow to Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta.

The Gunners have been heavily linked with a move for a new striker and Sesko emerged as their preferred option.

Other names are under consideration by sporting director Edu Gaspar and Arsenal could even reignite their interest in Bologna’s Joshua Zirkzee, who has a £34 million release clause.

Yet, according to The Guardian, a couple of names look to be out of reach for Arsenal financially, while another target is ‘unlikely’ to make the switch to the Emirates.

Arsenal move for three striker targets labelled unlikely

The outlet claims that Arsenal’s interest in Newcastle United star Alexander Isak and Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres has ‘dwindled’.

This is due to the huge fees involved in potential deals for the two strikers.

Meanwhile, a move for Ivan Toney has been described as ‘unlikely’ this summer.

Arsenal running out of options

Given that deals for Isak and Gyokeres seem difficult, Arsenal are short of options when it comes to bolstering Arteta’s options upfront.

Their interest in Toney seems to have cooled as well, particularly after the Englishman’s disappointing end to the season at Brentford.

But it feels vital that the Gunners bring in a fresh face upfront with Eddie Nketiah set to head out the door.

While Arsenal also want to bring in a new left-back and midfielder, it could prove costly if they don’t land a marquee signing in attack.

Kai Havertz would likely continue to lead the line if that becomes a reality and the German did surprise many last season. Yet, whether or not that would be enough for Arsenal to overtake Manchester City remains to be seen.
