An antiques, vintage and collectables centre has had to expand its space to keep up with demand during a successful first year in business.

The Newark Chapel Antiques Centre on Albert Street, Newark celebrated its one-year anniversary on Monday (June 10).

During those 12 months, centre manager Annabelle Marcus had to open the tearoom and second floor of the building to accommodate the increased demand from new dealers.

The centre brings together more than 20 dealers from across the East Midlands, showcasing period furniture, artworks, decorative and collectable items, as well as vintage and mid-century modern pieces.

Customers and dealers gathered together at the centre to celebrate the anniversary over a buffet and live music with a 1940s singer.

Annabelle said: “I am very proud of what has been achieved in such a short time with the support of everyone involved.

“This year has exceeded my expectations beyond anything I could ever imagine.”

Customers will be able to benefit from face-to-face advice from different dealers, who have a combined wealth and knowledge in their chosen field as well as an eclectic mix of stock available to all tastes.

“We are excited about the plan for the valuation days by a well known celebrity figure, Irita Marriott, which will be commencing in the very near future,” added the manager.

The building - No 1 Albert Street - is the former home of Newark Baptist Church. It includes a former Sunday school room, meeting rooms and office space.

When Annabelle moved to the centre she said she was drawn to the location due to Newark's antique history.

When describing one of her biggest achievements since owning the centre, Annabelle said: “Being able to meet extraordinary people and making extraordinary friends.”

The centre is open Tuesday to Sunday from 10.30am to 4.30pm.
