Where Conor Gallagher feels he should rank among Chelsea's top earners - journalist

Conor Gallagher’s contract at Chelsea continues to run down.

The midfielder has entered the final year of his current deal and is no closer to extending it.

Chelsea could now use Conor Gallagher‘s contract situation as an opportunity to sell the 24-year-old this summer amid interest from Aston Villa.

But even if the Blues were completely against that and wanted to hand him a new deal, it looks like they could run into a bit of a problem.

Gallagher had a huge role for Chelsea last season, making 50 appearances in all competitions.

How much money Conor Gallagher wants to earn at Chelsea?

It does not look like Gallagher wants to earn anything crazy at Chelsea, which makes sense.

They are his boyhood club; he probably just wants to carry on playing for them.

However, according to journalist Ben Jacobs, the Englishman still feels he should be in the club’s top 10 highest earners.

Speaking to GiveMeSport about Gallagher’s contract situation, Jacobs said: “Chelsea value Conor Gallagher at £50 million plus, and they will be relatively firm on that number, while Gallagher’s no closer to agreeing a new Chelsea deal. He’s been a model professional.

“It’s not true that he’s demanding crazy wages, because talks haven’t even really advanced to that point, but it’s just understood that Gallagher feels very reasonably, either at Chelsea or another club, that he should be one of the top 10 earners.”

Does Conor Gallagher deserve a pay rise?

You can debate whether Gallagher should be one of Chelsea’s highest-paid players.

Last season was the first where he shone for the Blues. However, given that Gallagher will need to sign a new deal to remain at the club and he has been playing well, it is not far-fetched for him to ask for a bit more money.

He was the second-highest rated Chelsea player on WhoScored and Moises Caicedo was the only man at Stamford Bridge to make more tackles than the England international, according to FBref.

As things stand, though, it does not look like Chelsea are going to hand Gallagher a new contract, let alone one with a pay rise.
