Report: Premier League side eye £40,000-a-week Crystal Palace player, Oliver Glasner only used him three times

Crystal Palace will be looking to sell some players this summer to fund the rebuild Oliver Glasner looks keen to undertake.

When the Eagles appointed Oliver Glasner, it was assumed that this would lead to a busy summer, considering the Austrian’s ambitions are beyond what they have previously been at Selhurst Park.

For Crystal Palace, this has already begun with the impending arrival of both Chadi Riad and Daichi Kamada at the club.

Riad has completed his medical and awaits the announcement of his move, while Kamada is in a similar boat with reports claiming he’s also been doing his medical.

These are the only imminent moves both in and out, with none of the big players receiving bids yet. But now it has been reported that one player is on the list of a rival.

Nottingham Forest have interest in Sam Johnstone

One player who could potentially be sold this summer but not for a budget-altering fee like a sale of Michael Olise or Ebere Eze would be.

This is according to The Telegraph which reports that Sam Johnstone is the latest Palace player to be linked with an exit from the Eagles this summer.

The report explains that Nottingham Forest is looking into the possibility of signing Johnstone from Palace, a move which would be renewed following interest held by the Premier League side in January.

The £40k-a-week goalkeeper hasn’t been in action for months and only managed to make three appearances under Glasner before picking up an injury.

If Palace were able to get a healthy fee for Johnstone, it’d be a wise idea to let him depart.

Selling Sam Johnstone would be a smart move

While he’s been an excellent goalkeeper for the club, if a good fee is offered, Palace would be crazy not to sell for a few reasons.

But the main reason is Dean Henderson, with the £20m arrival from summer 2023 finally affirming himself in the Palace goal after a strong end to the campaign under Glasner.

Both are excellent goalkeepers but Johnstone is the more sellable one, with Henderson unlikely to have any interest, especially at a fee which would see Palace break even.

Currently, with the England squad in Germany, Henderson is in line for a huge season, and Palace doesn’t need two goalkeepers on high wages, therefore a sale for Johnstone makes the most sense.
