'So impressive': Kieran Gibbs says Inter Miami have had another 'world-class' performer this year not just Lionel Messi

Kieran Gibbs has said Inter Miami have had another ‘world-class’ performer in their squad this season alongside Lionel Messi.

The Argentina international has been nothing short of sensational this year for Inter Miami, with Messi breaking numerous records as the Herons sit top of the Supporters’ Shield standings.

It hasn’t just been all about Messi this year at Inter Miami, though, with the likes of Matias Rojas, Benjamin Cremaschi and Diego Gomez all pulling their weight in pushing the Florida franchise to MLS immortality.

And former defender Gibbs has been stunned by one player in particular aside from Messi.

Speaking on the Inter Miami Weekly Show, Gibbs showered Luis Suarez with praise for his performances this season, with the Uruguay international arguably the Herons’ best player this year alongside Messi.

Gibbs said: “It’s tricky to pick other than Messi, but I would have to say Suarez. Most people would have had a perception of what he would be like before he had signed, and even though we know how world-class a striker he is, it’s so impressive to see him doing what he’s doing at this age.

“We know he’s had injury problems in the past and he doesn’t move quite the same, but the way he uses his brain to solve problems and his experience has been so amazing to see. 12 goals, the same as Messi, all different types of goals as well.

“He just looks to be rolling back the years, and he doesn’t look like he’s tired of playing yet. Every game he shows up with the same passion, the same commitment, trying to get the win, trying to do everything for the team, it’s what makes him so great to see.”

Suarez can be as important as Messi in Supporters’ Shield push

The Supporters’ Shield is clearly something Inter Miami have their sights set on winning this season, with the Herons currently in pole position for the title at the midway part of the campaign.

And once back in Florida, Suarez could be as important as Messi in Inter Miami’s bid to win the Supporters’ Shield, with the veteran striker in fantastic goalscoring form this season.

Indeed, Suarez has really proven the doubters wrong this season with his exploits in front of goal, and the Uruguay international will want to keep his streak going when back in action for Inter Miami.
