Report: Crystal Palace remain in the race to sign £10m forward for free this summer

As Daichi Kamada looks likely to arrive at Selhurst Park this summer, it seems like Crystal Palace isn’t done in the free-agent market yet.

This summer sees Oliver Glasner afforded the chance to mould his Crystal Palace squad into something resembling a team he will be happy with.

There is quite a bit to do, and it’s unlikely the club will be spending big during the transfer window unless one of the club’s star players are sold.

This means the club are likely to take advantage of the free agent market, and while Dougie Freedman is already close to bringing Daichi Kamada, rumours indicate there could be others arriving for free.

Alex Berenguer remains a target for Crystal Palace

With one free transfer arrival already set, Palace continue to be linked with potential free agents.

It is according to AS, the Athletic Bilbao winger is still a target for Palace this summer following some rumours earlier this year linking him to Selhurst Park.

The report explains that Berenguer is still in contract talks with Bilbao with his current deal expiring at the end of this month – after costing Bilbao £10m. It is thought that his primary desire is to renew his deal with the La Liga side, but if he doesn’t a few English sides are circling.

Palace are credited with an interest alongside both Brentford and Wolves which indicates the level of competition that the Eagles will have should they wish to sign the 28-year-old.

Berenguer isn’t the only one either with Ben Johnson also an option as he continues contract talks with West Ham while Palace have been heavily linked.

Meanwhile, two other potential free arrivals are being linked with moves to the Eagles.

What would Alex Berenguer bring to Selhurst Park?

For Palace, this summer is as much about adding depth and improving the technical ability within the squad as it is about making big moves to strengthen the starting line-up.

The first 11 at the disposal of Glasner is in many ways already the level required and rather the real area of weakness is the bench.

This is where Berenguer comes in, as he might not be starting with some more exciting targets linked in the event Michael Olise or Eberechi Eze leave, but he’d be a great option in the squad.

Seven goals and three assists in La Liga last season prove this as he played what was a bit part role for Bilbao but still shone brightly.
