Report: Nottingham Forest now open to offers for 'phenomenal player Steve Cooper signed last summer

Nottingham Forest are now prepared to listen to offers for a player who Steve Cooper signed only last summer.

Premier League football will be on the menu for Nuno Espirito Santo‘s side but Nottingham Forest did only just avoid the drop.

With this in mind, Evangelos Marinakis will surely be looking for improvements to be made at the City Ground with new additions over the summer.

Forest have already been linked with a number of potential signings with the window not even open yet.

Free agent striker Che Adams is believed to be a player of interest at Forest, as well as Brazilian goalkeeper Carlos Miguel who is said to be ‘ready to play’ for the Premier League side.

But it now seems as if Forest are willing to accept the departure of a player who they only signed one year ago during last summer’s transfer window.

Forest ready to sell Steve Cooper signing from last summer

Forest are among five Premier League sides who are going to have to sell players over the course of the month to avoid any repeat of last season’s points deduction.

June 30 is the deadline for Premier League sides to adhere to PSR rules and, in this case, Forest are going to have to create some cash through player sales to comply.

Forest have a number of players who could potentially bring in big money this summer as Brennan Johnson did last year.

However, it seems it may be one of the lesser-valued players who could be headed for the exit doors over the coming weeks.

According to GOAL, Matt Turner’s exit from the City Ground over the coming weeks could be accepted by Forest.

Turner is receiving interest from the MLS ahead of the summer transfer window opening and Forest are now said to be open to offers.

And if other reports are to be believed, Forest are already lining up a potential upgrade in the Brazilian goalkeeper from Corinthians, Miguel.

Time may be up for Matt Turner at Forest

Since Nuno’s arrival at the club, it has been made apparent Turner is not in the plans of the Portuguese manager.

The American has featured just eight times under the 50-year-old and has not taken to the pitch since January in the Premier League.

With a new goalkeeper also potentially on his way in, an exit for Turner could be a smart move for all parties.

It is apparent Turner – who was hailed “phenomenal” by Mikel Arteta – is not the goalkeeper Nuno wants between the sticks going forward with Matz Sels taking the starting spot towards the backend of the campaign.

And an exit would also provide Forest with some relief against the upcoming PSR deadline, but that means offloading him before the end of the month.
