Report: Club could completely change their mind over ‘unbelievable’ player Postecoglou wants Tottenham to sign

Tottenham Hotspur may have just been handed a fresh blow in their attempts to land a key Ange Postecoglou transfer target this summer.

Spurs have wasted no time in preparing for what looks set to be a busy three months ahead in north London.

Ange Postecoglou’s men have offloaded five players on free transfers, with Tanguy Ndombele the latest to head out the door after Ryan Sessegnon, Eric Dier, Japhet Tanganga and Ivan Perisic were released last week.

Timo Werner’s loan move from RB Leipzig has also been extended by a further season but Spurs are yet to address other key areas of the squad.

Postecoglou has reportedly identified three areas he wants to strengthen this summer – a defender, central midfielder and striker.

Among his top targets in the middle of the park is Conor Gallagher, who has been long-linked with a switch to Tottenham.

The Chelsea star has just a year remaining on his current contract and was expected to head out the door this summer. It’s no secret that the Blues may be forced to raise funds as they bid to stay on the right side of the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

But according to The Guardian, Chelsea are weighing up a change in stance when it comes to selling Gallagher.

Chelsea could change their mind over Tottenham target Conor Gallagher

The Guardian claims that Chelsea are considering a U-turn over Gallagher’s future.

Tottenham’s London rivals could now make an effort to agree fresh terms with the ‘unbelievable‘ midfielder, while Spurs and Aston Villa remain keen.

It’s noted that there has been a ‘change of noise’ around Gallagher’s situation of late after Chelsea were actively looking to offload him beforehand.

Gallagher would also prefer to remain at his boyhood club after coming through the Chelsea academy set-up.

Postecoglou wants Spurs to sign Gallagher

It’s no secret that Postecoglou is said to be a huge fan of Gallagher and Spurs looked poised to move for him this month.

Postecoglou reportedly admires the England international and views him as his ideal signing in the middle of the park.

Gallagher, who captained Chelsea regularly last season, is currently away with the England squad at Euro 2024.

It will be intriguing to see how this develops over the coming weeks, particularly if Chelsea attempt to agree fresh terms with their academy product. But with just a year left on his contract, the Blues will be fully aware of the risk involved should they fail to reach an agreement.

It would leave them facing the possibility of losing Gallagher on a free transfer next summer and with that in mind, it would be a surprise if Spurs didn’t at least test Chelsea’s resolve.
