Tony Bellew claims £225k-a-week Man City player is even better than Bukayo Saka

Former boxer Tony Bellew has suggested that one Manchester City player is better than Bukayo Saka.

As a lifelong and passionate Everton fan, Bellew certainly knows his football.

Over the coming days, numerous Premier League players will be involved in the upcoming European Championship in Germany.

Specifically, three members of the City squad will be representing England as Gareth Southgate’s side look to get their hands on the trophy.

Ahead of the tournament, Bellew shared his thoughts on some members of the England squad, including one of the City players currently in Germany.

Tony Bellew ranks Phil Foden above Bukayo Saka

Featuring in a recent video shared on the LiveScore TikTok channel, Bellew was asked to rank five players from the current England squad.

Those players included Saka, Harry Kane, Declan Rice, Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden.

In his final ranking, the Evertonian put Saka in last place, with Foden above the Arsenal winger.

He also put Rice third, Bellingham second and then Kane in top spot.

Foden and Saka had impressive individual seasons

Looking back over the most recent Premier League campaign, Foden and Saka both played in 35 games for their respective sides.

Across those games, Foden scored 19 goals compared to Saka’s 16, six of which saw the Arsenal star score from the penalty spot.

In terms of assists, the City midfielder delivered eight for his side, whereas the winger set up nine goals for the Gunners.

Foden not only ended the campaign with a higher passing accuracy percentage than Saka (85.5% vs 75.6%) but he also racked up a higher percentage of shots on target than the Arsenal winger (45.7% vs 30.4%).

Having helped his side win their fourth Premier League title in a row, the £225k-a-week midfielder was ultimately named the Player of the Season as a result of his impressive efforts throughout the campaign.

In addition to that, Alan Shearer named Foden as his standout player of the season, describing his campaign as “magnificent.”

Taking all of that into account, it’s easy to see why Bellew ranked the City star ahead of Saka in this particular instance, even though both players had very impressive seasons.
