A burglar who targeted a charity shop in Cambridge before going on a rampage in St Ives has been jailed.
Terry Lewis, of Needingworth Road, St Ives, forced the doors of the Salvation Army store in Mill Road, Cambridge, at about 9.45pm on 21 April.
He then travelled to St Ives and, in under 20 minutes, smashed his way into The Snug, Guinot Salon and St Ives Wellness Centre in Free Church Passage.
The 48-year-old stole just £60 but left behind his DNA and was caught on CCTV.
Police identified Lewis and arrested him the following day in Cambridge, where he kicked one of the police vehicles and broke the driver’s side indicator. The footage of his arrest from an officer’s bodycam was released by Cambridgeshire Constabulary.
At Cambridge Crown Court on Tuesday (11 June), Lewis was sentenced to 16 months in prison after pleading guilty to four counts of burglary and one count of criminal damage.
Det Sgt Jon Lockwood, from the southern acquisitive crime team, said: “Lewis is a prolific, opportunist burglar who has caused misery to businesses across Cambridge and St Ives. We hope this sentence provides some respite to businesses affected by his offending and that Lewis himself takes the opportunities given to him to help stop his offending.”
