‘I am very happy’: Euro 2024 star now suggests he won’t be joining Arsenal this summer

A player set to feature at Euro 2024 has admitted he’s ‘very happy’ at his current club after claims Arsenal want to sign him.

Arsenal have already suffered a significant transfer blow this week after missing out on RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko.

The Slovenian has put pen to paper on a new deal with the Bundesliga outfit, after Arsenal were confident about their chances of signing the striker.

The Gunners could now switch their focus to brining in competition for the likes of Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli in the wide positions.

It’s been claimed that sporting director Edu Gaspar and Mikel Arteta aren’t set on landing a new No.9 this summer. But one of Arsenal’s targets for the wide positions has played down talk of a summer exit.

Nico Williams ‘very happy’ amid Arsenal interest

Arsenal have been long-term admirers of Nico Williams as the Athletic Bilbao winger continues to turn heads in the Premier League.

Just last month, reports claimed that Arteta’s side had already held talks over signing Williams this summer.

The 21-year-old is currently at Euro 2024 with Spain and has told Spanish radio station Cope that he is fully focused on the tournament in Germany.

Williams also admitted he’s content at Athletic and suggested he wants to remain at his boyhood club.

“I am very happy at Athletic,” Williams said. “It is the club that has given me everything, it is the club that has bet on me 100 per cent. I am very happy in Bilbao and that is what I have to say.

“I have it quite clear. Athletic is my home, I am very happy and what I want to do is focus on the Euros, which is very important because if you are not 100 per cent in a competition like this, it will pass you by and the rest, I do not know what is going to happen.

“I have told my representatives that I do not want to know anything until the Euros is over. I am 100 per cent focused and my desire is to win the Euros.”

Williams’ wages could prove difficult for Arsenal

Williams could be available for just £43 million this summer due to a reported release clause in his contract.

It’s no real surprise to see Premier League clubs like Arsenal circling for a top-quality winger available at such a price.

Yet, Arsenal could face a stumbling block when it comes to the Spaniard’s wages as he reportedly wants £300,000-a-week to leave Athletic.

Williams would be an excellent option for the Gunners as a player who can operate off either flank and registered 17 assists last term.

But with the winger admitting he’s happy at his current club and his wage demands likely to prove difficult, Arsenal may have a tough time convincing him to leave Bilbao this summer.
