Five Michael Olise replacements Crystal Palace can sign - opinion

Crystal Palace may have to enter the transfer market in the coming weeks to find a replacement for star winger Michael Olise.

The 22-year-old impressed over the past campaign, bagging ten goals and laying on six assists to teammates, despite a season blighted by injuries.

Under Oliver Glasner, Olise showed yet more of his capability in a style of play that suited his attacking instincts.

There were plenty of hopes that the Crystal Palace boss would have the forward for next season, though those chances seem slim now.

Recent reports have claimed that Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Newcastle have all been in contact with Crystal Palace over a transfer for Olise this summer.

With a release clause in the region of £60million, it may be the end of the winger’s journey at Selhurst Park.

That said, any income could be reinvested into the squad, with plenty of replacements available to bolster the attacking ranks.

So with that said, here’s a look at five potential replacements for Olise at Crystal Palace this summer.

Crysencio Summerville – Leeds United

Crystal Palace’s forays into the Championship have proven fruitful when many of their big stars – such as Olise, Eberechi Eze and Adam Wharton – have all come from the division.

For that reason, dipping back into the second tier wouldn’t be a bad idea, with Leeds United star Crysencio Summerville an obvious candidate.

The 22-year-old winger scored 19 goals and bagged nine assists in 43 Championship appearances, landing the division’s Player of the Year award along the way.

While his contributions weren’t enough to earn promotion back to the Premier League, that may open up the chance for a move.

Summerville can play on both the left and the right flank, with plenty of potential for the future.

Jonathan Rowe – Norwich City

Sticking with the theme of Championship signings, the next option that could be on the cards for Crystal Palace is Norwich City star Jonathan Rowe.

The 21-year-old had a breakout campaign last season, scoring 12 goals and assisting two despite being hit by injuries.

Crystal Palace have already been linked with a move for Jonathan Rowe earlier in the year, who appears to be on the radar.

The Norwich academy graduate is capable of playing on either flank as well as an attacking midfield role, making him a versatile option.

Jaden Philogene – Hull City

The final Championship option on this list of replacements for Olise is Hull City star Jaden Philogene.

Philogene scored 12 goals and assisted six last season for the Tigers in a campaign where they narrowly missed out on a place in the playoffs.

A former Aston Villa youth product, the winger has shown his quality in the second tier at just 22 years old, with plenty of promise for the years ahead.

Crystal Palace have previously been linked with a move for Philogene, though a price tag upwards of £30million has been set by the Hull owner.

The England youth international has been capable of playing on both flanks and could offer plenty to Palace.

Marcus Edwards – Sporting CP

Up to this point, the suggestions have been from the Championship and are predominantly right-footed.

So, to change it up, the next option Crystal Palace could land is Sporting CP winger Marcus Edwards.

A former Tottenham youth player, Edwards is a left-footed right-winger, which suits the role of replacing Olise well.

The 25-year-old has proven himself since moving to Portugal, winning the league title last season with his club.

There have also been comparisons to Lionel Messi back in his Spurs days, as Mauricio Pochettino said in 2016: “The qualities – it’s only looks, his body and the way that he plays – remember a little bit from the beginning of Messi.

“He’s small, he’s left-footed, I remember a little bit [Erik] Lamela when he was at River Plate, remember he had long hair, when he was 14-15 years old, there is a lot of videos on YouTube that you can see, that he took the ball, didn’t give a pass and shot straight away.

“He [Edwards] is a very good prospect and potentially he can be a top player, but we need to be patient and tell him that he has a lot of talent, enough talent to be a top player, a great player. But now it’s how he builds his future, that’s very important. And it’s our responsibility to tell him.”

While it proved difficult to break in at Tottenham, their loss could well be Crystal Palace’s gain in the summer window.

Omari Hutchinson – Chelsea

The final option to replace Olise in this list is Chelsea youngster Omari Hutchinson, who may be the next up-and-coming star.

At just 20 years old, the winger has already shown he is capable of top-level Championship performances after his loan spell with Ipswich Town – helping them earn promotion to the Premier League.

Hutchinson is at his best when playing on the right, cutting in on his left foot and firing shots at goal from range.

With just two years remaining on his Chelsea contract, the winger may be an ideal option to join the Eagles and be their next big star.
