Report: Aston Villa now keen on signing 'exceptional' £35m Euro 2024 player with Duran money

Aston Villa are looking to strengthen their squad this summer and could now make a move for a defender set to play his part in Euro 2024.

The Villans are one of the most active clubs so far in terms of rumours and are said to be in negotiations with Chelsea over the £40m sale of striker, Jhon Duran.

Villa are also keen on adding to their frontline and it was reported yesterday that Matias Soule is a player of interest to Unai Emery.

Of course, going into the Champions League next season, Villa and Emery know they need more than just the one new signing.

And according to The Telegraph, an enquiry has now gone in for one of the Netherlands’ Euro 2024 call-ups.

Aston Villa make enquiry for Chelsea’s Ian Maatsen

According to the report, Villa have made their interest in Maatsen known as part of the negotiations going on between both clubs right now.

With Duran potentially joining Chelsea, Villa have also declared an interest in Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher.

But it’s also claimed that Dutch defender Maatsen has been mentioned.

Maatsen enjoyed a superb campaign with Dortmund last season and has a £35m release-clause in his contract.

However, the German side are unwilling to pay such a fee and it’s now reported that Villa could move in to sign the young defender.

Ian Maatsen is an ‘exceptional’ young talent

As we know, Maatsen starred for Burnley in the Championship before getting his move to Dortmund and helping them to the Champions League final.

Lauded as an ‘exceptional‘ young defender, it is clear that Maatsen is one of the top young left-backs in Europe right now.

Villa, then, are simply looking to get this one done as they look to make use of Chelsea’s need to sell players to appease PSR worries.

Unlike Dortmund, Villa will likely have little issue with paying the £35m required.
