Andy Robertson shares what former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp texted to him ahead of Germany vs Scotland

Liverpool are getting used to the idea that Jurgen Klopp is no longer manager at the club.

After nine fantastic years of the German’s stewardship, Liverpool are now preparing for the Arne Slot era.

It will still take while to come around to saying it, but Klopp is now a former Liverpool manager.

As he himself comes to terms with his post-Reds life, Klopp has been sharing his movements with Liverpool fans. The boss has already been spotted at the Champions League final and at Taylor Swift’s concert at Anfield on Thursday.

Preparing for his first summer off in almost a decade, Klopp will also no doubt be looking forward to watching Euro 2024 back home in Germany. The Germans kick-off the tournament on Friday against Scotland. And Jurgen just so happens to know the captain of the Scots.

Andy Robertson reveals Jurgen Klopp text

In time, Andy Robertson will come to be seen as one of the stalwarts of Klopp’s time at Liverpool. The left-back was an utterly reliable starter for the manager over seven years.

As his career at Liverpool has blossomed, so too has Robertson’s importance to his national team.

Captain of Scotland since 2018, the 30-year-old surpassed the record for number of games with the armband last week.

And as he prepared to lead The Tartan Army into battle on Friday, Robertson has revealed a congratulatory text message he received from his old manager at Liverpool.

“He [Klopp] text me last week when I broke the record,” the defender told a press conference via Sky Sports News.

“Very nice message off him, which he didn’t have to do, but I appreciated it massively. That was it, all he said was ‘congratulations'”.

Robertson also claimed that Klopp is set to be in the stands to watch him try and spoil the part with Scotland in Munich.

“I know he’s at the game tomorrow [Friday], so it’ll be interesting to see who he supports!” smiled the Liverpool man. “I’m sure there’s only one answer to that. Look, I don’t need any advice from him I think he knows that but hopefully he can enjoy the game, but not too much!”

Andy Robertson and Scotland looking for upset

Scotland will be hoping that they can get their campaign off to a flying start on Friday. There is cautious optimism around their chances.

As for Robertson himself, he’ll be looking to shake off an injury issue ahead of the big game.

Robertson was forced to miss training earlier in the week as his injury-plagued season threatened to get even worse.

Thankfully, it seems as though the former Hull City left-back is now fully recovered to lead Scotland out against Germany.

Steve Clarke’s side are certainly better for having Robertson available. And although that could be a blow to his own nation, you’d imagine Klopp will be delighted to see his former player, too.

Best of luck, Robbo!
