Family pay tribute to ‘much loved’ Dedham grandad Kevin Findlay, who died after motorbike crash in Acton, near Sudbury

Tributes have been paid to a ‘much loved and cherished’ father and grandfather after his death in a motorcycle crash last month.

Emergency services were alerted to Waldingfield Road, in Acton, near Sudbury, at 12.50pm on Sunday, May 19, following reports of a collision involving two motorbikes.

One of the motorists, a 63-year-old man, died at the scene. He has since been confirmed as Kevin Findlay, of Dedham, Essex.

In a statement, family paid tribute to Mr Findlay.

It read: “It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Kevin John Findlay as the result of a tragic motorbike accident.

“Kevin was a much loved and cherished fiancé to Lesley. He was loving and kind to her children Suzannah, James and Caroline and a caring and adored grandfather to their children. They have many fond memories of the fun times they had together.

“Kevin was a loving brother and uncle to Stewart, Carol, Edith and their families and father to Dan and Lois.

“His many friends and colleagues will also miss him greatly.”

Family said Mr Findlay led life to the fullest, having a long career as a saturation diver.

Towards the end of this career, he set up a business specialising in structural repairs.

Work kept him busy, but he always had time for family and friends, the tribute said.

This included numerous holidays with fiancé Lesley and friends, including road trips to Europe and beyond.

“He always had time to be the archetypical fun-loving grandad and looked forward to having all the grandchildren around,” his family said.

“They will remember great times including summer barbecues when he created waterslides in the garden. He loved to see the joy on their faces and hear their laughter.

“A passion that Kevin had throughout his life was motorbiking – he loved his motorbikes. We take comfort knowing that although he left us too soon it was while doing something he loved.

“We all will find strength and comfort in the memories of the wonderful man he was.”

Suffolk Police continue to investigate the crash.
