'Excited...': Max Lowe's 10-word message after signing for Sheffield Wednesday ahead of Sheffield United exit

Sheffield Wednesday announced the signing of Max Lowe on Saturday, ahead of his Sheffield United contract expiring.

Sheffield Wednesday have now announced two new signings in the space of two days, with free agent goalkeeper Ben Hamer becoming the Owl’s first signing of the summer on Friday.

The 36-year-old joins after being released by Watford at the end of last season, becoming Danny Rohl’s first permanent signing as Sheffield Wednesday manager.

The Owls then announced the arrival of Max Lowe on Saturday. The 27-year-old left-back is being released by Sheffield United when his contract expires at the end of June.

He’ll officially link up with the blue and white of Sheffield on July 1st and he’ll look to put several years of injury woes behind him.

In four years at Bramall Lane, Lowe managed just 53 first-team appearances for the Blades, having also represented the likes of Aberdeen, Derby County, Nottingham Forest, and Shrewsbury Town during his career.

Max Lowe pens message after leaving Sheffield United for Sheffield Wednesday

Shortly after Sheffield Wednesday announced the signing of Lowe, who Sheffield United reportedly paid around £3million for in 2020, Lowe took to X to share his thoughts.

Lowe posted after securing a move to Hillsborough:

In the Championship, Lowe has 87 total appearances to his name and an impressive 10 assists from left-back.

He’s thought to be more of a natural left-back than a wing-back like Marvin Johnson, with Lowe also comfortable playing in front of the defence.

Though expect Rohl to utilise Lowe as a left-back with options in that department currently very light.

The key thing for Max Lowe to succeed at Sheffield Wednesday

Lowe certainly looks like someone who knows the Championship well, and who can compliment the attacking style of play at Sheffield Wednesday.

Rohl places a lot of emphasis on full-backs and so he not only needs bodies in these positions, but attacking quality.

Lowe provides just that with his assists tally proving so. But for Lowe, the key to whether or not he succeeds at Sheffield Wednesday is whether he can stay fit.

He’s got a poor injury record and playing in a very fast-pace and intense Sheffield Wednesday side could be challenging for him.

It’ll be a balancing act for Lowe and Rohl, who’ll know that he may not be able to play Lowe week in, week out.

But if Lowe can be available for the vast majority of games next season, then it should prove to be a very strong signing for the Owls.
