'I know what I'd be doing': Chris Sutton urges Newcastle player to leave after hearing who wants to sign him

Chris Sutton has now urged one Newcastle United player to leave the club this summer as speculation surrounds his future.

An interesting summer awaits Newcastle with the Toon needing to offload some players before 30 June’s PSR deadline.

However, that should not be too difficult for Eddie Howe‘s side to manage with the Magpies not needing much to balance the books before the end of the month.

Thankfully, it does not seem that the likes of Alexander Isak and Bruno Guimaraes are the type of players who Newcastle will have to part ways with over the coming weeks.

But it does look like players are going to have to be moved this month with player sales now the only way of generating the money needed to comply with PSR rules.

Discussing one potential departing player from Tyneside, Sutton has now urged one Newcastle player to make the move away from St James’ Park.

Chris Sutton urges Newcastle player to leave this summer

Numerous players have already been released from the club this summer with long-serving members of the squad like Paul Dummett and Matt Ritchie moving on.

But money is going to have to be made somewhere and there are more players who could be offloaded over the coming weeks.

One of those is goalkeeper Martin Dubravka who unexpectedly played a lot of football over the 2023/24 campaign through Nick Pope‘s serious injury.

Howe waxed lyrical about the 35-year-old after his heroics in the FA Cup earlier this year as he labeled the Slovakian “important“.

Writing for the Daily Record, Sutton has urged Dubravka to leave the Toon this summer in favour of a fresh start at Celtic.

“He’s played a lot of games for Newcastle in the last year but isn’t going to be first choice,” Sutton said.

“There’s every chance he saw what Hart achieved at Celtic and fancies a bit of that himself. Does he sit tight and ride out his final year at Newcastle as a backup, or perhaps drop down the division in England to get a regular game?

“Or does he come to Celtic, play every week and be in with the chance of winning silverware, while playing in the Champions League? I know what I’d be doing.”

Opportunities may be limited for Martin Dubravka at Newcastle this season

Pope has made his return from injury having missed the large majority of the campaign through his serious shoulder injury.

The Englishman will naturally claim back his spot between the sticks and then Newcastle are believed to be pushing to bring in James Trafford from Burnley.

Whereas at Celtic, the number one spot is there to be claimed as Joe Hart has now announced his retirement from football.

Playing at Parkhead will allow Dubravka to earn some more experience playing in the Champions League but it’s not going to be a deal which will bring big money into Newcastle.
